To ensure their children remain competitive in the increasingly borderless world, more and more Malaysian parents are opting for international and private education for their children. However, these schools do not come for cheap.
In 2012, the Malaysian government has eliminated the quota for Malaysian enrolment at international schools. Due to the quota and the lack of affordable options, only selected affluent Malaysians could afford to send their children to these schools previously.

Keeping Employees Happy, 5 Key Lessons

Keeping Employees Happy

According to a JobStreet.com survey on Employee Job Satisfaction in Malaysia, 78% of the respondents claimed that they were unhappy with their current job. While it is often perceived that the main reason many young talent leave a company is due to the low salary, only 17% out of the 1,145 respondents quoted salary as the main reason for influencing their unhappiness at their current job.

Dissatisfaction with their scope of work was the top reason many felt unhappy at work. Most of these unhappy employees said they felt that they have too much work or that their work is predictable and boring. Another factor was also their poor relationship with their immediate supervisor or boss.

Overall, the employees agreed that the key changes determining their wellbeing at work would need to include opportunities for career development and also work-life balance in the company. If the needs are not met, the majority said they would find another job to restore their happiness at work.

Research has showed that profits are higher when employees are loyal and engaged in the company while on the contrary, the company suffers when employees feels unmotivated or undervalued. Studies have also shown that engaged employees perform better, miss less work, adaptable and are more supportive to changes.

Happy employees are also satisfied and feel a sense of accomplishment in their work – a sense that what they do is important and meaningful. Such feelings reduce stress, which is a major factor of productivity.

To create an environment where happiness and productivity flourish, here are 5 key lessons to consider:-

BR1M : For The Better Or Worse?

1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) programme was first devised by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in 2012 as part of the Government’s effort to ease the burden of the lower income group in Malaysia. This programme was devised to help the lower income group cushion the high cost of living in Malaysia. BR1M is also part of the Government’s Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) to turn Malaysia into a high income nation.

It was not surprising, though disappointing to hear that BR1M will be continued in Budget 2016, even with 95% of respondents we polled who received BR1M said that the amount is not enough to cover the rising cost of living. So, why does the Government continue to give handouts to the low income group?

Let’s start with why it is actually a good idea.

Is The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Good For Malaysia?

So, what exactly is the TPP Agreement? The TPP is a proposed regional regulatory and investment treaty aimed at creating a platform for economic integration across the Asia Pacific region.
The proposed agreement originated in 2005 as the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPSEP or P4), and included just New Zealand, Chile, Singapore and Brunei.
It was the United States’ (US) participation and its subsequent dominant role in the negotiations of the partnership that resulted in the expansion of its membership, as well as having a primary role in its agenda setting.

How does it affect Malaysia?

Malaysia joined the TPP in 2010 and is expected to increase its GDP by 5.6% and also its export by 11.9% by year 2025.
The industries most likely to benefit from the pact are textiles, apparel, commodities and electronics.

The Inside Story Of Surface Book, Microsoft's Next Big Thing

One night about two years ago, Panos Panay couldn’t sleep. This happens a lot, waking up in the middle of the night with loud thoughts rattling around in his head. Panay popped off the pillow, reached for his new Surface Pen and his old Surface Mini, and wrote himself an email. (He loves the Mini, a small tablet his team built but never shipped. “It was like a Moleskine,” he says. “It was awesome.”)

These delirious bursts of late-night energy tend to be when Panay’s most creative, and this particular witching hour, he had portable computers on the brain. The day before, he had led a review for a top-secret, still nascent project within Microsoft—to create “the ultimate laptop.” The team responsible for the product, which was called Surface Book, showed up and said, okay, we’ve done it. It’s going to be thin, light, cool, and fast. It’s going to be an awesome laptop.

5 Things Really Successful Learners Do

Most everyone can learn, but some people just absorb and grow at remarkable rates. Here are some of their tricks.

But some people seem to learn easier and faster than others. These smart people often show creativity and innovation, and quickly pick up new skills on their own time.

Learning should be easy to do since we all go through years of schooling training on how to do it. But beyond basic acquisition of knowledge, there is a real art to intensive learning. For deep learning you have to find the time and energy for knowledge and skills building. Really successful learners know the trick is to make the process itself as energizing and efficient as possible. Here's how they do it.

10 Ways to Create a Backyard Oasis

1. Plant Lush Layers

“I would rather the edge of my property look like the edge of the woods than look at someone else’s property or a wall,” says Raymond. From towering shade trees to midsize shrubs to low-lying ground cover, using different-size plants creates textured layers. Here’s one of Raymond’s favorite combinations: a low layer of deep-purple ground cover that won’t exceed 12 inches tall, a medium layer of flaming orange bromeliads and feathery green cycads, and an uppermost canopy of palms. “I like a garden that, if not tended, still looks good―almost like nature took over,” he says.
