What Is A Tax Deduction?

After deducting tax reliefs from your annual income, you can still reduce your chargeable income with tax deductions.

In Malaysia, a tax deduction is similar to a tax relief, where it reduces your chargeable income. Tax deductions are a result of Gifts and Donations.

Donations are only tax deductible if the donations are made to Government approved charitable organisation or directly to the Government, and you must keep the receipt of the donation.

For income tax 2017, if your chargeable income is RM55,000, and you’ve donated RM2,500 to an approved charitable organisation, you are allowed to deduct 7% of your aggregate income to reduce your chargeable income.

For income tax 2017, if your chargeable income is RM55,000, and you’ve donated RM2,500 to an approved charitable organisation, you are allowed to deduct 7% of your aggregate income to reduce your chargeable income.

Total chargeable income after tax deduction
= RM55,000 – (RM55,000 x 7%)
= RM55,000 – RM3,850
= RM51,150

Malaysia Income Tax e-Filing Guide

So, how to file income tax? Taxpayers can start submitting their income tax return forms through the e-Filing system starting from March 1 of every year, unless otherwise announced by LHDN. This method of e-filing is becoming popular among taxpayers for its simplicity and user-friendliness.

Unlike the traditional income tax filing, where you have to print out the income tax form and fill it in manually, the e-Filing income tax form calculates your income tax for you automatically. So, questions like “how to calculate my income tax” will not be stopping you from getting your income tax returns.

Filing your tax through e-Filing also gives you more time to file your taxes, as opposed to the traditional method of filing, where the deadline is usually on April 30.

If this is your first time filing your tax through e-Filing, don’t worry, we’ve got your back with this handy guide on e-Filing.

How Small Businesses Can Prepare for Marketing in 2017

The best way to prepare mentally for marketing in 2017 is to start fresh, with a clean slate. For the moment, forget about what you accomplished and failed to accomplish with your marketing in 2016; set aside all the baggage of frustrations and disappointments you picked up along the way. Think as if you are starting from scratch and ask yourself: What is the one thing we must accomplish with marketing in 2017?
That is really the key question. Small businesses have limited resources -- limited funds and limited time -- so focus is of the essence! Many small businesses go around in circles with marketing because they dabble, trying to do a little bit of everything instead of trying to do one thing really well. Avoid this trap and you’ve already got a leg up on the competition going into 2017.

5 Most Expensive International Schools In The Klang Valley

To ensure their children remain competitive in the increasingly borderless world, more and more Malaysian parents are opting for international and private education for their children. However, these schools do not come for cheap.
In 2012, the Malaysian government has eliminated the quota for Malaysian enrolment at international schools. Due to the quota and the lack of affordable options, only selected affluent Malaysians could afford to send their children to these schools previously.
The 2012 decision to remove the quota has opened the floodgates and more international schools are mushrooming all over the country. According to the latest data by the International School Consultancy Group (ISC), a UK-based organisation, there are currently 99 English-medium international schools in the country, with a total of 39,460 students.
The market has been growing at a rate of 19% per annum for the past five years, and it is showing no signs of stagnation.
Based on latest findings, 40% of the students in these premium schools are local Malaysians, 9% British, 6% South Korean and 4% American.
How expensive are these premium schools really? We have collated the top 5 most expensive international schools in the country and this is how much you will have to fork out to send your child to these schools from nursery all the way till graduation:

What Is Zakat?

In an effort to shed some light on the Zakat issue, we talked to Employer Collection Sector Manager from Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS), Encik Wira Mustafa to understand what it entails, why it’s not encouraged to pay Zakat directly to the poor and to find out how the funds are used.

What is Zakat?

Encik Wira: Zakat is the third pillar of Islam and is wajib (compulsory) on Muslim’s who meet all the conditions. The word Zakat itself means to purify. Technically Zakat means a fixed proportion collected from a specific type of mal (wealth) when they reach the haul (specific term) which must be distributed to specific categories of people. Giving Zakat means Muslim’s are purifying their wealth by giving a part of it to the needy as well as to gain Allah’s blessing on their wealth. It teaches us to sacrifice a part of our wealth, to cleanse our wealth by means of Zakat.

Top 10 Skills You Need at Work That Have Nothing to Do with Your Job

Hiring managers make the difficult decision of who the best candidate is for the job based not just on the specific job requirements but also basic “soft skills” every worker should have, like communication and teamwork. Here are the top 10 additional job skills everyone needs.

10. Writing Skills

If you’re not a writer or an editor, you might think your writing ability has nothing to do with your job. Yet 51% of employers say that communication skills (like writing) are a requirement for their employees. Mike Borozdin, a former Microsoft engineer and now senior director of engineering at DocuSign, advises all programmers to sharpen their writing skills. Without being able to communicate clearly or express yourself properly, you probably won’t get ahead at work. Writing is also especially important if you work remotely, since your emails, IMs, and other text-based messages will be your primary form of communication with your boss and co-workers. Improve your writing with these top 10 tips or take a look at this periodic table of figures of speech.

The Deep Politics of God : The CNP, Dominionism, and the Ted Haggard Scandal (Part 2 of 2)

Deep Politics and the Evangelical Establishment

The CNP should concern people, but not necessarily for the reasons that the Left present. Groups like the CNP can draw innocent Christians into the practice of deep politics. Deep politics is a term first coined by Professor Peter Dale Scott. Scott gives the following description of deep politics:
My notion of deep politics… posits that in every culture and society there are facts which tend to be suppressed collectively, because of the social and psychological costs of not doing so. Like all other observers, I too have involuntarily suppressed facts and even memories about the drug traffic that were too provocative to be retained with equanimity. (No pagination)

A Fractured Nation - Malaysia At The Crossroads

PRESS STATEMENT, 30 July 2015, Kuala Lumpur – Transparency International – Malaysia (TI-M) is deeply concerned that the entire 1MDB episode so far sadly displays a complete lack of governance, integrity and submission to the rule of law. 29 July 2015, will go down as one of the most interesting and eventful days in the leaf of Malaysian history.

The services of the Attorney-General (AG) and a few Cabinet members were terminated. Even the AG was not aware of the decision and the reason given for the termination was due to ‘health reasons’. The services of the Special Branch Chief at Bukit Aman were also not extended. Ironically, a fire broke out destroying ‘old and unimportant documents’ at the corridor of Level 10 of Menara Dua in Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur.

Obama’s “Pivot to Asia”: US Sponsored Mobs Seek to Overthrow Malaysian Government

Malaysia’s “Bersih” movement – an umbrella organization for various opposition groups opposed to the current government of Prime Minister Najib Razak – plans its fourth street demonstration in 8 years to unfold at the end of August.

While Bersih’s alleged goal is “clean and fair elections,” it is openly led by the government’s opposition headed by the now imprisoned US-proxy Anwar Ibrahim and a myriad of US-funded and directed nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). The US State Department, through its US National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and its subsidiary the National Democratic Institute (NDI), the Open Society Institute (OSI) among others, have funded both Bersih directly, and many of the NGOs that constitute Bersih’s core leadership.

Several NGOs currenlty openly funded by the US NED - i.e. Islamic Renaissance Front and Lawyers for Liberty - can be found also listed on Bersih’s current “endorsees” list.

Despite years of immense US-funding, Bersih has recently pleaded for donations and now claims they’ve received over a half million Ringgit (over 100,000 USD). More recent reports claim the amount could be as high as 1.2 million Ringgit.
